PDF of Rail Review
Hello Brothers and Sisters,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the support you given to your fellow members that have been elected to the various Local Union positions. I would also like to thank you for electing me as your Presi-dent and giving me the opportunity to address your concerns.
I am 55 years of age, living in Moncton NB and have been with CN for 32 years, working mostly in the Track Department until assuming the duties as a full time Union Representative approximately 5 years ago. Since taking over the duties of the President in May of this year, I must say “without a doubt” it has been filled with many challenges. However, I feel confident that we can address many of the out-standing issues that face our members today.
Some issues which have already been addressed by your Executive Officers are; excessive discipline, the hiring of new members and the Health and Safety Representative position. In conference with the Company, we were informed of their inten-tion to hire close to 150 new members. They also agreed that a new approach was needed in regards to discipline. Our discussion also resolved around the Union ’s Health and Safety Rep-resentative position. Brother Todd Cotie who held the position previously, will reassume the duties with a new mandate and direction that will benefit both CN and USW Local 2004.
The USW Local 2004’s website has been revised and will be in place in the very near future. It will be informative and updated on a regular basis. The Track Talk newsletter has been replaced with the USW Local 2004 Rail Review.
